SPRING 2 IN YEAR 2
Our topic of ‘We Are Voyagers’ has allowed us to visit Liverpool for a trip to the Maritime Museum and a voyage of our very own on the ferry across the Mersey! It was also great to explore the local area and get out and about in Liverpool- we have been drawing maps, looking at geographical features and using compass points to give directions. We also celebrated World Book Day in this topic and it fitted in with our global themes- books from around the world, traditional stories and ways to tell stories. We made up a dance about under the sea monsters and creatures in our PE lessons, and have also learnt about Atlantis, as well as writing about the adventures we had under the sea in a futuristic submarine! We studied the Titanic and what happened to it in English and History lessons which was really interesting and produced some great stories and newspaper reports too! In our Maths lessons we have looked at fractions and money. It has been a really great topic to get our teeth into and we have also started to grow our own potatoes linked to healthy diet and healthy eating. Creatively, we also studied the artwork of the Russian artist Kandinsky and made our own art in his style by listening to orchestral music and drawing the shapes that we ‘saw’ after hearing the music. Our music lessons have been learning how to play the glockenspiel with our music teacher, Mrs Hadwin- we have started to read music and play in a large group, recognising notes and joining in with songs and music. Wow, what a busy half term we have had and what a lot we have learnt!
