School Council 2009-2010
Our School Council members are very special! Every year each class from Reception upwards elect two children to represent their class on the School Council. The children choose very carefully and think hard about the sort of personal qualities that are needed to be a good School Council member. For example it may be someone who is a good friend and approachable or someone with lots of good ideas and so on. All our School Council members wear a badge in school and we actively encourage the children to approach members for help at playtime. At the beginning of the year Year 1 and 2 School Council introduce themselves to the rest of the school during an assembly so that the children know a little bit more about them. Our School Council meets regularly through the year with Mrs Hadwin and occasionally other members of staff such as the Head Teacher, where they discuss school issues such as school dinners or lessons. A part of their job is to consult the rest of the children to find out their viewpoints regarding such issues which will then inform the school staff when making decisions. Another activity that the School Council enjoys is fundraising. The children have in the past raised money for charities such as Children in Need or Comic Relief as well as fundraising for school equipment. If the school has visitors the School Council will often be called upon to talk to them about the school and answer any questions. We feel the School Council is a great way to ensure the children’s opinions and viewpoints are heard and it develops the children’s sense of responsibility and confidence. |
