This is a Year 1 club that meets over half a term. We learn how to play a variety of percussion
instruments including drums/maracas/claves/tambar and not forgetting our very
own instruments our body!! We also learn
to play different rhythms from all over the world such as South American Samba
and West African drum rhythms. This is a
popular club that develops children’s sense of pulse and rhythm, and expands
their awareness of multicultural music.
This is run for half
a term for each year group – Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. children explore their singing voices and how
to use their singing voices to best effect by learning simple breathing and
warm up exercises. The singing club
encourages children to sing by using echo sags, action sags and through
playground singing games. The children
are encouraged to sing individually as well as in a group, which develops their
confidence, self esteem, listening skills and their ability to work with
others.
This is a ‘taster’
club for pupils in Year 2. Children
learn how to play the recorder correctly using correct finger positions and
breath control. The children learn a range of notes and form this are able to
play a number of simple tunes using a backing track to play along to and
perform with. School provides each child
with a recorder to use during the club.
Dance club is open to all year 2 children who wish to take
part. This lunchtime club offers students
the opportunity to create, practise and perfect their dance moves. Kinds of dance may vary form disco to country
dancing and sometimes young leaders from the local Sports College assist at the
club to bring a vibrant and exciting new aspect to the children! The club often culminates in a specific
performance either to their peers or invited parents.

Due to popular
demand, the children attend on a rolling rota system for one term; this gives
all year two children the opportunity to access the club.
This club is open to
Year 2 pupils. In the club, children
work to enrich and extend their knowledge of artists and artist
techniques. The club works on a theme
and or studies an artist, allowing children to work in various styles. Past clubs have studied Jackson Pollack,
Monet, Sculpture, Klimt, printing, David Hockney and colour mixing. Children enjoy Art Club and really learn a
lot about art and artists.
This club is open to Year 1 children. It concentrates on observational drawing and
explores drawing in a variety of media.
Children explore figure drawing and portraiture comparing and
contrasting chalks, pencils, graphite, oil pastels and other drawing equipment.
This
is a new club for Year 2 pupils to give them a taste of speaking and listening
to a different language. The children
learn some simple phrases and also cover topic such as colours, numbers and
body parts. We play games, listen to a
cassette and sing some simple French songs.
These activities will give the children a foundation from which to
develop these skills in the future.
Our Gardening Club is run by Year One children in their outdoor
area. They worked very hard with their
parents to clear the ground and build some raised beds to grow flowers, fruit
and vegetables in. They are also helped by children from Chesterfield High
School who came in the summer.
As soon as spring
comes we sow the seeds and start growing.
We grow potatoes, beans, peas, beetroot, lettuce, tomatoes, sweetcorn,
courgettes and pumpkins. Then we have to
keep the ground free of weeds and water the plants when it is dry. We grow huge sunflowers and fill tubs of flowers
to make our area lovely.

The weekly Drama Club
develops a range of skills to support the taught curriculum. Children learn to co-operate, share ideas,
retell stories, use their voices and of course they have lots of fun too!
