Physical Education

At Forefield Infant and Nursery Community School, we aim to enable children with the knowledge, values, skills and personal qualities to be confident and keen to take part in sport and physical activities. This contributes to a healthy and active lifestyle, improves concentration, attitudes and develops important skills such as leadership, social and team building skills.

The Head teacher and P.E Coordinator are committed to ensure that all pupils receive at least two hours of high quality P.E per week delivered by confident and well trained teachers. We offer this through a range of activities using the TOPs scheme of work. Children will have the opportunity to experience and develop their skills in the EYFS and KS1 through TOPs games, gymnastics, dance and athletics. These well planned lessons provide a broad and balanced curriculum with opportunities for all to be enjoyed. Staff have been equipped to be confident and effective teachers by the support of a TOPs trained PE mentor.

Physical Education encourages children to develop their understanding of how to participate safely and effectively. We aim for all children to succeed in their own ability through opportunities and experiences, thereby enabling them to reach their full potential.  Children are encouraged to be physically active for sustained periods of time in order to encourage them to lead healthy, active lives. To promote this further, we also offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities such gymnastics and multi-skills.

From an early age competitiveness is to be nurtured and encouraged with both the EYFS and KS1. We hold an annual Sports Day were competition and participation is encouraged. Children also have the opportunity to take part in interschool competitions such as football and orienteering. The children’s achievements for participation and success are celebrated in our assemblies.

Children at Forefield Infant and Nursery Community School are able to develop confidence, self-esteem and sportsmanship through Physical Education.
