Welcome to the new academic year in Y1 at Forefield Community Infant & Nursery School. We are very much looking forward to sharing an exciting year with your children with many super activities and topics planned. We also look forward to working in partnership with parents and carers to ensure the very best possible for your child.
By way of introduction, our Y1 team consists of Mrs Gilroy and Mrs Byrne who teach in Class 6, Miss Oldham Class 5 teacher and Mrs Niblock, Class 4 teacher. Mrs Gilroy is the year group leader and assistant headteacher in school.
Should you have any queries at anytime, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or any of the team. We look forward to meeting you informally at the forthcoming ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions – please see this week’s Year Group Newsletter for more details.
Spring 2 in Year 1
We have had a very exciting half term learning through our topic ‘We Are Artists’. This half term we have been busy learning about the artist Van Gogh. We have looked at a variety of his paintings and recreated them in our own way using paint, felt pens and computers. We have been very lucky this half term to share our learning about Spring with our families during our class assemblies, sharing our art work, paintings and poetry. In English we have been focusing on poetry and looked at a wide range of different Spring Poems and used them to inspire our own poems. We have also been learning to edit our work and have become Sentence Doctors ensuring that all our sentences have a thorough check up! In Maths we have been focusing on multiplication and finding the difference which are both very tricky concepts. As part of our Science we have been growing different plants and looking at a range of flowers and learning the names of the different parts. We really enjoyed celebrating World Book Day and have loved dressing up as a book character and sharing our favourite stories!
