Autumn 2 in Year 1

The topic of We Are Scientists, has been a huge success this half term. The children thoroughly enjoyed our special science day at the beginning of the term where they experimented with light using a range of different materials. From here the children learnt all about fair testing before moving on to discovering different festival food.

In other subjects, we have discovered the history of the light bulb as well as learning about the scientist, Thomas Edison. In Geography we have looked closely at our daily weather before comparing this to weather around the world. The children have discovered the impact of the equator on weather systems and have identified the countries within the British Isles. In PSHE the children have begun to recognise the impact their behaviour has on others. They have worked hard on recognising their emotions before learning appropriate ways to deal with them.

On the lead up to Christmas the children have been busy finding out how Christmas is celebrated around the world as well as sharing their own family Christmas traditions with the class. The classrooms have been full of glitter and sequins as they set to work creating a range of Christmas cards, calendars and decorations and I am sure you will agree, they worked incredibly hard to present their Christmas Production in such a confident and mature manner. What a wonderful topic and way to end the year 2018, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
