Welcome to the new academic year in Y1 at Forefield Community Infant & Nursery School. We are very much looking forward to sharing an exciting year with your children with many super activities and topics planned. We also look forward to working in partnership with parents and carers to ensure the very best possible for your child.
By way of introduction, our Y1 team consists of Mrs Pugh and Mrs Byrne, Class 6 teachers, Miss Oldham, Class 5 teacher and Mrs Niblock, Class 4 teacher. Miss Pegg works across all the Year 1 Classes supporting children with learning and leading small intervention groups.
Should you have any queries at anytime, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or any of the team. We look forward to meeting you informally at the forthcoming ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions – please see this week’s Year Group Newsletter for more details.
September in Year 1
Welcome to Year One!
This half term our topic is ‘We are Scientists’. We launched our exciting topic with a special ‘Science Day’. Children came to school dressed as scientists, bringing with them some amazing windmills which they had designed and made at home. They then spent the whole day carrying out some fantastic investigations. They explored a range of materials to discover which was waterproof, they found the best material for making a parachute and built the strongest bridge they could from art straws and newspaper! In the afternoon we built dens from scrap materials and finished the day with exploding cola and even launched a rocket! We had a really enjoyable day, thank you for all the positive feedback you have given us regarding this day. It is lovely to hear how excited the children were when they were talking about the day at home.
We would also like to say a huge thank you for all the support you gave the children when completing The Holiday Homework Challenges. During the first week of term the children shared some very creative and imaginative memory boxes with their friends. The children asked each other questions about their summer holiday and used some wide ranging vocabulary to talk about the places they had visited.
This half term has also seen us begin our Gymnastic coaching form Total Gymnastics. As you can see from our photographs the children have really enjoyed exploring balances on different body parts and exploring different ways of travelling.
In Art we have begun to study the life and work of the French Artist Cezanne and we have begun to examine his still life paintings of fruit. This has linked into our celebration of harvest and our exploration of the changing seasons and the resulting weather and climate changes.
What a busy start to the term we have had! Many thanks to all those who attended the ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions and hope you found them both useful and informative. We are really looking forward to working with you all and sharing some wonderful memories as your children embark on the next stage in their learning journey!
