Spring 1 in Year 1

We have had a very exciting half term learning through our topic ‘We are Chefs’. The half term was kick started with a visit from ‘The Fun Food Chef’ where we made and tasted some healthy pizzas, smoothies and fruit yoghurts all whilst dressed as Chefs ourselves! We have focused on how to keep healthy and discussed all the different ways we can do this including looking at foods and how different medicines need to be taken safely. We have also taken part in P.E. health and wellbeing sessions exploring the different ways that we stay healthy through exercise and diet. We have looked at how kitchens have changed over time and the different utensils even having to guess what some of them were used for! We have completed some lovely writing around our topic including recipes, adverts and retelling the story of Oliver’s Fruit Salad. In art we have looked closely at the artist Andy Warhol. We have learnt all about his life and work and have used our sketchbooks to start drawing our own observational drawings of a soup can based on some of his famous work. We have had great fun colour mixing and looking at how the primary colours can be mixed to make different colours. One of our favourite parts of our topic was making jam sandwiches as part of our recipe writing and fruit salad as part of our D.T. topic.
